Endoscopy Simulation Case Scenarios
The scenarios hosted here were developed as part of the SCALE-ENDO (Study of Communication and Adaptive Capacity using in-situ Learning Environments based on real-life risks in ENDOscopy) study.
Designed for multi-professional endoscopy teams including endoscopists, nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff, each scenario was constructed to reflect the complexity of real-world endoscopy incidents based on a human factors analysis of endoscopy-related incidents reported to NHS England over a five-year period. Scenarios incorporate challenges to team communication, situational awareness, and adaptive decision-making under organisational pressure.

A large national survey of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) practitioners and units, including organisational characteristics, revealed the persistence of low-volume practitioners and units, as well as an older, male-dominated workforce with high anticipated retirement rates.
